What to Wear for your Fall Mini Session

Figuring out what to wear for your upcoming Fall Mini Session does not have to be stressful.  Read on to take the pressure off the question that has been bussing in your mind for weeks.

Here’s a guide to help you pick out family session attire & tips to remember!

  • Comfortable is best! Avoid clothes that you have to adjust a lot when you put them on. You want to be comfortable and be able to move easily!

  • Patterns are great, however, they can also be distracting if there is more than one. Typically one patterned item per family looks the best.

  • Avoid big logos and graphic tees as they draw a lot of attention and can be distracting in the photos.

  • Chose ONE color scheme and then select your outfits around that.

Here are 3 color scheme recommendations:

    • Blues: navy, light blue
    • Neutrals: white, light gray, light blue, tan/khaki
    • Warm colors: Maroon/olive green/mustard yellow

    MOMS:

    • Flowy Maxi dress (can be a pattern just remember ONE pattern per family looks best)
    • Cute top/sweater with black, colored, or dark blue jeans
    • Ankle boots or flats
    • Jewelry to accessorize.  I suggest subtle pieces, nothing that is too large and distracting.

    DADS:

    • Buttoned shirt
    • Sweater
    • Dark jeans or khaki pants
    • Dark colored shoes

    GIRLS:

    • Dresses with tights or leggings (to stay warm & looks adorable in pictures)
    • Sweater or cute top and dark jeans
    • Cute boots
    • Scarf or cute jacket
    • Maybe even a stylish hat

    BOYS:

    • Buttoned shirt
    • Vneck tee or polo
    • Jeans or khakis
    • Dark colored shoes (sneakers can have color and logos that are distracting)

Lastly, here are some TIPS & TRICKS to help your session go smoother!

  • For little ones (and even adults!) eat at a snack or main meal before your session so they’re happier & full!
  • For moms: Be yourself, be comfortable and confident.  Taking a little extra time for yourself before the session pays off.  A blow out, manicure or professional make up application, whatever makes you feel fabulous.
  • Nails can be a distractor in photos, so be sure chipped nail polish is removed and children have their nails trimmed and free of dirt.
  • Babies: Accidents sometimes happen. Bring an extra outfit just in case there needs to be a quick change!
  • Pack a small bag the night before. Include accessories, makeup, hairbrush/comb, snacks, water, toys, and anything else you may need!
  • Please take keys & phones out of your pockets before we begin!
  • Plan a fun thing to do after your session! Go for brunch or dinner and make photo day a fun memory as a family, after all you are all dressed up and already out of the house!

If you have any questions about anything written above, or just about the session in general, please do not hesitate to ask. I look forward to working with you soon!
